Tegan Crawford, the creative force behind Tegan's Custom Cakes, has been running her business from home for the past six years. What started as a happy accident at a bakery job turned into a passion and a successful career. Tegan's Custom Cakes specializes in buttercream cakes, with a focus on wedding cakes. Tegan's love for cake making shines through in her creations, and she has found her niche in the industry.

Finding Her Calling

Tegan's journey into cake making was not a straight path. Initially, she had plans to study exercise and sports science at university. However, a temporary opportunity at a bakery changed everything. Tegan discovered her talent for cake making and realized that it was her true calling. She started experimenting with different cake designs and flavors, learning from YouTube videos and Instagram tutorials. Tegan's Custom Cakes was born out of a passion for creating beautiful and delicious cakes.

The Art of Cake Making

Tegan's style is focused on buttercream cakes, a departure from the traditional fondant-covered cakes. She has honed her skills over the years and has developed a signature style that combines classic designs with modern elements. Tegan's cakes range from elegant white creations adorned with flowers to more elaborate vintage-inspired designs with frills and cherries. She also offers a variety of flavors, with her white chocolate raspberry mud cake and red velvet being the most popular choices.

The Importance of Communication

When it comes to ordering a cake, Tegan emphasizes the importance of clear communication. The more information a client provides, the better she can understand their vision and create a cake that exceeds their expectations. Tegan advises clients to provide details such as the number of servings, the date of the event, and any specific design preferences or color schemes. She also encourages clients to share their inspiration photos, as it helps her understand their style and create a cake that reflects their vision.

Catering to Dietary Requirements

In today's world, dietary requirements are becoming increasingly common. Tegan understands the importance of catering to these needs and offers gluten-free and dairy-free options for her clients. She believes in inclusivity and wants everyone to be able to enjoy her cakes. Tegan's gluten-free cupcakes are a popular addition to wedding cakes, allowing couples to accommodate guests with celiac disease or other dietary restrictions.

The Future of Cake Flavours

When it comes to flavor combinations, Tegan predicts that biscoff and peanut butter will continue to rise in popularity. She believes that these flavors are currently underestimated in Australia and sees great potential in incorporating them into her cake creations. Tegan also suggests exploring more savory flavors, such as chocolate and cheese, as a unique twist on traditional sweet cakes.

Transporting and Preserving Cakes

Transporting a cake can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially for couples who choose to pick up their cakes themselves. Tegan advises clients to have a flat and stable surface in their car, such as an SUV or a vehicle with a spacious boot. She provides a non-slip mat to ensure the cake stays secure during transportation. Tegan also emphasizes the importance of refrigerating the cake upon arrival at the venue or home, as buttercream cakes are sensitive to heat and humidity.

The Joy of Leftover Cake

Leftover cake is a delightful treat, and Tegan encourages couples to consider freezing any uneaten portions. Her mud cakes can last for over ten days in the freezer, allowing couples to enjoy the deliciousness of their wedding cake even after the big day. Freezing slices of cake individually is a convenient way to savor the flavors and relive the memories.

Conclusion: A Sweet Future

Tegan Crawford's passion for cake making shines through in her creations. Her unique style, attention to detail, and dedication to customer satisfaction have made her a sought-after cake artist.
